Why we recommend them:
Since 1990 (when Project Possible was known as ROPE), they have been getting alongside overlooked people in the small corners of the world. They provide the encouragement, funds and training needed these people to get their own poverty-fighting ventures off the ground and take a hold of a future more hope-filled than their past.
Project Possible provides relief to individuals who are destitute and literally 'the poorest of the poor'. Often, these people are missed by the larger aid agencies but because Project Possible has groups of nationals in their own country assessing the needs within communities, help can be provided at an individual and very personal level.
The charity has excellent accountability in that the Project Possible groups which receive their grants on a quarterly basis also have to report back as to the use of the money with the names of individuals who have been helped and what help has been given. This means that a donor in the UK can literally know the name of a person who has been helped, something of their personal history and what difference has been made. 100% of the money that is given goes to provide help to the poor and nothing is deducted from the donation for expenses – this means that small amounts of money can have big impact.
Project Possible also grants nil interest revolving loans to provide small business projects which give opportunity for individuals and communities to support themselves through the dignity of work. Overall, this is an excellent charity making a real difference to the lives of the poorest in our world and doing it the hard way.
